Jóhann Jóhannsson was single and never married publicly. He had one daughter, Karolina Jóhannsdóttir, who lives in Copenhagen.
He left Reykjavík in the early 2000s, lived in Copenhagen for a time, and later settled in Berlin’s Kreuzberg district.
