Jonathan Larson was born on February 4, 1960, in Mount Vernon, New York. He was born to Allan Larson and Nanette Larson. His ethnicity was Jewish-American. He grew up alongside his sister, Julie Larson, in White Plains, where music and theatre became important parts of his childhood.
He learned piano, studied music theory, played trumpet and tuba, sang in his school choir, and acted in school productions. The musical premiered Off-Broadway in February 1996 and later moved to Broadway, becoming a major theatrical success. Larson also composed music for Sesame Street, children’s productions, An American Tail, The Land Before Time, and other projects.
