Jack Rooke was born on 29 July 1993 in Watford, Hertfordshire, England, to parents Laurie Rooke, a black cab driver, and Josie Rooke, who worked multiple jobs. He grew up in Rickmansworth with his older brother Dean and was close to his grandmother Sicely. His father died of cancer when Rooke was 15.

Starring Dylan Llewellyn as a fictionalised younger version of Rooke navigating university life, sexuality, and grief alongside Jon Pointing as his flatmate, the series received widespread acclaim.

It earned multiple BAFTA Television Award nominations for Best Scripted Comedy and won Rooke the BAFTA Craft Award for Best Writer: Comedy.
