Lira Mercer, popularly called Lira Galore, was born in Houston, Texas to African-American parents; Terrence and Michelle Mercer. At the time of her birth, her parents were unprepared for marriage and had issues raising her.

Later on, she was abandoned by her father, who got married to a white woman, leaving her mum to take care of her.
