Carter Page was born on June 3, 1971, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, the son of Allan Robert Page and Rachel Greenstein Page.
He grew up in Poughkeepsie, New York, and graduated from Our Lady of Lourdes High School in 1989.
He earned a bachelor’s degree from the United States Naval Academy, a master’s degree from Georgetown University, an MBA from New York University, and a Ph.D. from SOAS, University of London.
Career
Carter Page began his professional career in the U.S. Navy after graduating from the Naval Academy in 1993.
He served for five years, including work as an intelligence officer during a United Nations peacekeeping mission in western Morocco, and reached the rank of lieutenant.
He subsequently entered investment banking and spent seven years at Merrill Lynch in London, Moscow, and New York.
Carter Page later founded Global Energy Capital, becoming its managing partner and focusing on energy investments and consulting in emerging markets.
He also served as an international affairs fellow at the Council on Foreign Relations.
In March 2016, Carter Page was announced as a foreign-policy adviser to Donald Trump‘s presidential campaign.
He subsequently attracted extensive public attention because of his contacts with Russian officials and his July 2016 trip to Moscow.
The FBI obtained FISA surveillance warrants targeting him later that year as part of its investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 election. Page denied wrongdoing, and he was never charged with a crime.
