Lucas Reiner was born on 17 August 1960 in Los Angeles, California, United States, to actor, comedian, writer, director Carl Reiner, visual artist, performer Estelle Reiner.
He is the youngest of three children, with an older brother, Rob Reiner, an older sister, Annie Reiner.
He attributes his early interest in art to his mother, with whom he studied under painter Martin Lubner. Between 1978 and 1986 he attended Parsons School of Design, the New School for Social Research in New York, Otis Art Institute in Los Angeles, Parsons School of Design in Paris.

Lucas Reiner has worked primarily as a visual artist for more than three decades, producing series of paintings, drawings, etchings, photographs that blend representation, symbolism, abstraction.
His best-known body of work focuses on the trees lining the streets of Los Angeles, examining the tension between natural growth, the constraints of urban environments.
Other series address fireworks, atmospheric effects, spiritual subjects, including a cycle of Stations of the Cross etchings, paintings commissioned in connection with St. Augustine’s Episcopal Church in Washington, D.C.
