George Jacob Jung was born on August 6, 1942, in Weymouth, Massachusetts. He was raised by his parents, Frederick and Ermine Jung.

Seeking greater profits, he expanded his operation to include smuggling drugs from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, utilizing stolen aeroplanes and professional pilots.

At the zenith of his operation, it was reported that Jung and his associates made approximately $250,000 monthly.

However, his criminal activities came to an end in 1974 when he was arrested in Chicago for smuggling 660 pounds of marijuana. This arrest led to his imprisonment at the Federal Correctional Institution in Danbury.

Medellín Cartel:

While serving his sentence at FCI Danbury in 1974, George Jung met his future partner Carlos Lehder.

Lehder, a German Colombian, introduced Jung to the notorious Medellín Cartel, an international drug-trafficking organization. In return, Jung shared his knowledge of smuggling techniques with Lehder.

After their release in 1976, Jung and Lehder partnered with Pablo Escobar, becoming major players in smuggling large quantities of cocaine into the United States.

Death

George Jung passed away on May 5, 2021, at 79. He had been receiving hospice care for liver and kidney failure at his home in Weymouth, Massachusetts, at the time of his death.
