Roberto Carlos started his career at União São João in Brazil’s lower leagues. He moved to Palmeiras in 1993. At Palmeiras, he won two Brazilian Série A titles in 1993 and 1994. He quickly became a great left-back.

In 1995, he transferred to Inter Milan. However, he had trouble adjusting to the team. He played one season, appearing in 30 matches and scoring 5 goals.
