He was born in Lloydminster, Saskatchewan, Canada, in 1947 and started his journalism career at The StarPhoenix newspaper in Saskatoon in 1966.

Throughout his early years, he gained experience working at several local stations across Canada, such as CFTO-TV in Toronto, CHAN-TV (now BCTV) in Vancouver, and CFQC in Saskatoon, where he held roles as a newsreader, reporter, weekend anchor, and producer.


In 1966, Keith Morrison graduated from the University of Saskatchewan with a bachelor’s degree in history, which became the foundation of his successful journalism career.

Despite his academic focus on history, Morrison held various positions in the journalism field in Canada and the United States, culminating in his current role as a correspondent on Dateline NBC, where his unique storytelling style has garnered him much recognition.


After obtaining a history degree from the University of Saskatchewan in 1966, he started his career at “The StarPhoenix” newspaper in Saskatoon the same year.

In 1973, he transitioned to CTV, where he held multiple roles, including newsreader, reporter, weekend anchor, and producer.

He received awards for his coverage of the Yom Kippur War and the Boat People crisis. In 1982, he joined the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) as a correspondent and anchor, later moving to Los Angeles as a correspondent for KNBC-TV in 1986.

He joined NBC News 1988 as a West Coast correspondent for “NBC Nightly News” and “Today“. After a brief return to CTV in 1992, he was fired in 1995.

In 1981, Morrison married Suzanne Perry, who has an extensive background in writing, consulting, and political fundraising and has also worked as a news anchor and press secretary for Canadian Prime Minister Pierre Trudeau.

Together, they have four children: Caitlin (born in 1981), Emily (born in 1985), Willy (born in 1987), and Madeleine (born in 1989).

Morrison also has a son, Michael (born in 1974), from a previous marriage. Additionally, Morrison became the stepfather to the late actor Matthew Perry, who is Suzanne’s son from her previous marriage to actor John Bennett Perry.
