Early Life And Education

Tarek Fatah was born on November 20, 1949, in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. He was raised by his parents, whose names are unknown to the public but might be referred to as Mr and Mrs Tarek, and he may have grown up with siblings, the names of which are unknown to the media. 

Fatah graduated with a degree in biochemistry from the University of Karachi but entered journalism as a reporter for the Karachi Sun in 1970 before becoming an investigative journalist for Pakistan TV.

Career

Fatah began his career as a reporter for the Karachi Sun before transitioning to Pakistan Television as an investigative journalist. As a communist student activist in the 1960s and 1970s, he was imprisoned twice by military governments. His criticism got him in trouble again in 1977, when he was charged with sedition and forbidden from journalism by the Zia-ul-Haq administration.

Fatah was forced to leave Pakistan and relocated to Canada in 1987. This was the start of a fruitful career as a broadcaster and columnist. He discovered his voice at Toronto radio station CFRB Newstalk 1010 and then became a regular contributor for the Toronto Sun (2012–2023). He has appeared as a commentator on the Sun News Network and presented his show, “What The Fatah,” on the New Delhi Times YouTube channel (2018-2023).

Fatah was an outspoken critic of Pakistan’s religious and political establishment and the partition of India. He was well-known for his progressive views on Islam and terrorism and his outspoken criticism of Pakistan’s leadership. He wrote novels like “Chasing a Mirage” and “The Jew is Not My Enemy.” Fatah died in 2023 at the age of 73.
