A politician from Nigeria, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq was born on February 5, 1960, and he has served as the governor of Kwara State since 2019.

He was the CEO of First Fuels Limited before this. He unsuccessfully campaigned for governor of Kwara State under the political party Congress for Progressive Change in 2003, 2007, and 2011, losing to Abubakar Bukola Saraki in each of those years and to Abdulfatah Ahmed in 2011.

But he stood for office again in 2019 as a representative of Nigeria’s ruling party, the All Progressive Congress, which is currently in power.

He was chosen as the new governor of Kwara State after winning the state’s 2019 governorship election. In 2021, he introduced KwaraLEARN in basic education to allow teachers more power.

Early life

He was born in Ilorin West Local Government. AbdulRahman’s father, Alh. A. G. F. AbdulRazaq SAN, was the first northern attorney in Nigeria.

He attended Capital School in Kaduna from 1966 to 1968, Bishop Smith Memorial School in Ilorin from 1970 to 1971, and Government College in Kaduna from 1976 to 1976, when he reportedly finished with a West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE).

Career

He entered politics in 1999 when Nigeria recovered democracy. On the Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) platform, he unsuccessfully ran for governor of Kwara State in 2011.

He also unsuccessfully campaigned on the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) platform for the Kwara Central Senatorial District in 2011 and 2015.

He won the All Progressive Congress’s governorship primary in Kwara State in October 2018.

He was appointed governor of Kwara State on March 9 this year and started office on May 29.
