Babagana Umara Zulum CON, a politician and academic from Nigeria born on August 26, 1969, has been the governor of Borno State for the All Progressive Congress (APC) since 2019.

Babagana Umara Zulum is a Nigerian politician and academic elected governor of Borno State in 2019 with 1,175,440 votes.

Early Life

In Borno State’s Mafa Local Government Area, Zulum was born on August 25, 1969. Zulum earned a degree in Agriculture Engineering from the University of Maiduguri after attending Mafa Primary School from 1975 to 1980 and Government Secondary School, Monguno from 1980 to 1985.

He then joined the Katsina State Polytechnic Youth Corps.

In Borno State’s Mafa Local Government Area, Zulum was born on August 25, 1969. In 2005, he began a PhD in Soil and Water Engineering at the University of Maiduguri, which he completed in 2009.

Career

Babagana started his career with the Borno State Civil Service as an Assistant Technical Officer in the Ministry of Agriculture in 1989.

Babagana entered the Borno State Unified Local Government Service in 1990 as a Senior Field Overseer, later rising to Principal Water Engineer.

He began his career as an assistant lecturer at the University of Maiduguri in 2000 and climbed to Professor. In 2010 and 2011, Babagana served as Deputy Dean and Acting Dean of the Faculty of Engineering.

Babagana Umara was appointed Rector of Polytechnic in 2011. Meanwhile, he continued to lecture at the University of Maiduguri.

Governor Kashim Shetima of Borno State appointed him Commissioner of Reconstruction, Rehabilitation, and Resettlement in 2015, a position he held until 2018.

On October 1, 2018, he won the All Progressives Congress gubernatorial primary in Borno State. With 1175440 votes, he was elected governor of Borno State in the 2019 Borno gubernatorial election held on March 9, 2019.

Controversy
