Bassey Edet Otu is a Nigerian politician who served as the Federal House of Representatives representative representing the Cross River State district of Calabar Municipal/Odukpani from 2003 to 2011.

In the April 2011 elections, he was elected Senator for Cross River South on the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) platform.

He later defected to the All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2016 and was elected as the party’s Cross River South Senatorial candidate in the 2019 election. After the 2023 gubernatorial elections, Prince Otu is the current Governor-Elect of Cross River State.

Early Life

Bassey, Prince of Wales Edet Okon Otu was born to the Late Eld on October 18, 1959. & Mrs Edet Okon Otu of Adiabo, Odukpani Local Government Area, Cross River State.

He was raised in Jos, Plateau State, where his father was assigned to a Church of Scotland mission, and his hometown is Calabar.

He earned a bachelor’s degree in the Faculty of Social Sciences from the University of Calabar. Before going into politics, he worked in the banking and oil industries.

He has a passion for farming as well. Otu graduated with a bachelor’s degree in social sciences from the University of Calabar.
