Early Life & Education

Biodun Oybanji was born in Ikogosi-Ekiti, the capital of his native Ekiti State, on December 21, 1967. He is of the Yoruba ethnic group in Nigeria.

He began his academic journey at the Baptist Primary School in Ikogosi-Ekiti, Ekiti State, Nigeria. Before enrolling in CAC Grammar School in Efon-Alaaye, Ekiti State, 1979 he attended Awo Community High School.

He studied at the Federal School of Arts and Sciences in Ondo State and the Commercial Secondary School in Aramoko, Ekiti, between 1983 and 1985.

He graduated with a degree in Political Science from Ondo State University, now known as Ekiti State University, in 1989. His political science master’s degree from the University of Ibadan was awarded to him in 1992.

Career

Abiodun Oyebanji was a University Department of Political Science lecturer from 1993 to 1997.

He served as Manager of the now-defunct Omega Bank PLC, now known as Heritage Bank, from May 1999 to May 1999. He manages Con Dios Farm LTD and works in agriculture as well.

Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji has a long history in politics in Ekiti, having held positions as Special Assistant (Parliament Affairs) and Special Adviser (Parliament Affairs) to the Governor of Ekiti State (June 8, 1999–2000), respectively.

Additionally, from June 8, 1999, to June 20, 2000, he worked as the Governor of Ekiti State’s Special Adviser (Parliament Affairs). (June 8, 1999–2000). (August 1, 2000–September 1, 2001).

From September 2001 until May 29, 2003, Hon Oyebanji served as the Governor of Ekiti State’s Chief of Staff, and from June 2009 to December 2010, he served as the Chairman of the Governing Board of the Citizenship and Leadership Training Centre, which is part of the Federal Ministry of Youth and Sports Development.

The Ikogosi politician held the State Commissioner for the Ministry of Integration and Inter-Governmental Affairs position and the Director-General of Ekiti State’s Office of Transformation Strategy and Delivery (OTSD).

Biodun Oyebanji was the Secretary to the Ekiti State Government under Governor John Kayode Fayemi until he declared his desire to run for Governor of Ekiti.

Governorship Ambition

Biodun Oyebanji resigned as state SSG on December 7, 2021, to focus entirely on the governorship race.
The resignation was given to the Governor in a letter dated December 3, 2021, according to a statement from the Governor’s Chief Press Secretary, Yinka Oyebode.

Oyebanji resigned because he decided to compete for state governor in the next election.

According to the statement, Governor Fayemi thanked the former SSG for his remarkable contributions to the administration from its inception in 2018 and wished him success in his future endeavors.

A few days later, he will be taken by several political appointees to Abuja to pick up the election nomination.

Governor Fayemi and the state’s first executive governor, Niyi Adebayo, provided Biodun Oyebanji with the greatest teaching in governance and politics, allowing him to navigate the difficult terrain and deliver, he said during one of his campaign tours.
