Early Life

Muhammed Inuwa Yahaya was born on October 9, 1961, in Gombe Local Government Area, Gombe State, to the family of Yahaya Umaru, a successful businessman.

He attended Central Primary School in Gombe from 1968 to 1974 and Government Science Secondary School in Gombe from 1974 to 1979, earning a First Leaving Certificate and a West African School Certificate.

Muhammed Inuwa Yahaya then attended Ahmadu Bello University in Zaria, earning a Bachelor of Science in Accounting in 1983.

Career

He was in Yola, Adamawa State, for his national youth service plan at the Nigeria Bank for Commerce and Industry.

1984, he began a full-time accounting career with the Bauchi State Investment and Property Development Company (BSIPDC). He worked his way up to become a principal accountant.

Between 1993 and 1999, Muhammed Inuwa Yahaya was the managing director of A.Y.U Civil Engineering Company Ltd.

He eventually became the Administration and Finance Manager for his family’s firm, Nasar Motors Limited.

He progressed through the ranks to become the managing director of the Nasara Group of Companies.

He was also the chairman and CEO of Superior Group and a director of Premium Pension Ltd.

He entered politics in 2003 when he was appointed Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development by then-Governor Danjuma Goje. He served in that capacity for seven years.

Muhammed Inuwa Yahaya is a founding member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and served as the party’s governorship candidate in Gombe in 2015 and 2019.

He was defeated in the 2015 election by then-incumbent governor Ibrahim Dankwambo of the Peoples Democratic Party. Mr Dankwambo received 285,369 votes, whereas Mr Inuwa Yahaya received 205,132 votes.

In the March 9, 2019, governorship election, Muhammed Inuwa Yahaya won 364,179 votes, defeating Senator Bayero Nafada of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) with 222 868 votes.
