Emily Sisson was born on October 12, 1991, in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and raised by her parents Mark Sisson, a former University of Wisconsin–Madison runner, and Nancy Sisson, a competitive gymnast.

She grew up in Chesterfield, Missouri, with three sisters and attended Parkway Central High School, where she set numerous records including a U.S. national high school girls’ 5000m mark. She later earned an MBA from Providence College. Her religion is Christianity.

Career

Emily Sisson began dominating in high school with multiple Foot Locker finalist appearances and a bronze at the 2007 Pan American Junior Championships. At Providence College, she became a two-time NCAA champion in the 5000m and set the collegiate indoor record. Turning professional with New Balance in 2015, she quickly collected seven-time (now eight) U.S. national titles across distances from 5K to 20K.
