Early Life and Education
Jasson Domínguez was born on February 7, 2003, in Esperanza, Dominican Republic. His father, Felix Domínguez, was a baseball enthusiast and New York Yankees fan who named his son after former Yankees slugger Jason Giambi.
Growing up in the Dominican Republic, Jasson developed a passion for baseball at an early age and began training with instructor Ivan Noboa in 2013. His early physical development, switch-hitting ability, speed, and power attracted attention from international scouts.
Domínguez pursued baseball development through specialized training rather than following a conventional publicly documented academic path. His dedication and athletic potential helped him become one of the most closely watched international prospects before signing professionally.
Career
Jasson Domínguez began his professional career after signing with the New York Yankees as an international amateur free agent on July 2, 2019, at age 16.
He received a $5.1 million signing bonus, setting a franchise record for an international amateur at the time. His combination of switch-hitting power, speed, and athleticism earned him the nickname “The Martian” and made him one of baseball’s most anticipated prospects.
Domínguez progressed through the Yankees’ minor-league system, earning selections to the MLB All-Star Futures Game in 2021 and 2022.
He made his major-league debut on September 1, 2023, and immediately made an impression by hitting four home runs in his first seven games. A right elbow ligament injury soon required Tommy John surgery, interrupting his early progress.
After returning to competition, he continued developing as an outfielder and hitter. In 2025, he appeared in 123 major-league games, batting .257 with 10 home runs and 23 stolen bases.
During 2026, he split time between the Yankees and their Triple-A affiliate, dealing with a left shoulder injury and later being optioned to the minors in September. His development remains an important part of the Yankees’ outfield plans.
