Starting as an assistant coach to the under-11 players at Belgian club KFC Rita Berlaar, he returned to South Africa to coach Mamelodi Sundowns reserves. After that, he became an assistant coach to Bruce Grobbelaar at Supersport United before eventually taking over as head coach from 2001 to 2007.

During his time at Supersport United, Pitso Mosimane led the team to two second-place finishes in the Premier Soccer League, cementing his status as one of South Africa’s top coaches. His big break came when he was named the caretaker coach of the South African national team, Bafana Bafana, for seven games in 2007.

Pitso Mosimane‘s hard work and dedication paid off when he was appointed the head coach of the national team on July 15, 2010. His first game in charge was a thrilling 1-0 victory over Ghana, which set the tone for what was to come.
