Early Life

Ray Lewis was the oldest of five siblings born in Bartow, Florida. His mother was only 16 when he was born, and his father was away for the majority of his life. He was born to Sunseria (mother) and Elbert Ray Jackson (father) on the 15th of May 1975.

His father’s background was little known save that he was a record-breaking high school wrestler before being sentenced for drug-related offenses. Ray Lewis grew up to be the man of the house, despite being the eldest brother of four younger siblings. His four siblings are Keon Lattimore, Lakeisha Jenkins, Laquesha Jenkins, and Kadaja Holloway.

Ray Lewis groomed his sisters’ hair and ensured his younger brother was on time for daycare. When his father’s relationship with him dwindled, he dropped his last name and enrolled in Kathleen High School in Lakeland under the name of his mother’s lover, Ray Lewis.

Education

Ray Lewis attended the University of Miami, where he played football for the Miami Hurricanes. As a freshman, he had an immediate impact, starting the Hurricanes’ final five games.

Ray Lewis accumulated 81 tackles, two sacks, two tackles for loss, and four pass deflections while playing for hurricanes.

Personal Life

Ray Lewis has six children in total, four boys and two daughters. Ray Lewis III, his first son, was a college football player at the University of Miami and Coastal Carolina. His six children are Ray Lewis III, Rayshad Lewis, Diaymon Desiree Lewis, Rashaan Lewis, Ralin Lewis, and Kaitlin Lewis.

Ray Lewis, despite his affluent, never got married. He was engaged to Tatyana McCall, but they called it quit due to undisclosed reasons.

After being indicted by a South Carolina grand jury on a third-degree criminal sexual assault charge, he was removed from the Coastal Carolina football team and the institution in 2016. There are currently no details concerning his wife at the moment.

Career

Ray Lewis was the top-rated inside linebacker heading into the 1996 NFL Draft, in which Kevin Hardy was considered the draft’s only outstanding linebacker prospect.

As the fifth linebacker in the draft, Ray Lewis was seen by scouts as possessing speed, tackling ability, and intensity, as well as being praised for his ability to go into pass coverage. But many considered his lack of size a potential liability.

Ray Lewis won his second AFC Defensive Player of the Week award in Week 9 against the Washington Redskins. In 1997, he set an NFL record and a career-high with 184 tackles, including 156 solo stops, the most ever in a single season, and earned his first Pro Bowl berth. He also had 11 pass deflections, four sacks, an interception, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery.

Ray Lewis was selected to the Pro Bowl for the second time in 1998, with 120 tackles, three sacks, two interceptions, a forced fumble, and seven pass deflections. He led the Ravens in tackles for the third year in a row. He was also chosen to the All-Pro Team by Sporting News.

Ray Lewis and the rest of Raven’s defense restricted Hall of Fame running back Barry Sanders to only 41 rushing yards on 19 attempts in what would turn out to be his final game.

In 2000, Ray Lewis led a defense that many call the greatest in NFL history for a single season. In week 2 of the regular season against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Ray Lewis led the team in tackles with 11 tackles in the 39-36 win.

In week 3 against the Miami Dolphins, he had 11 tackles in the 19-6 loss. In week 6 against the Jacksonville Jaguars, he finished 13 tackles and a fumble recovery in the 15-10 win.

Net Worth

Celebrated as one of the best professional footballers to grace the pitch, Ray Lewis‘ net worth is roughly US$45 million.
