Career

Zak Crawley‘s cricketing journey began in 2017 when he made his senior debut for Kent in the Royal London Cup. This debut occurred on May 17th, when he faced Essex at Canterbury. Soon after, he marked his entry into first-class cricket during the 166th Canterbury Cricket Week on August 6, 2017, against the touring West Indians. In his maiden first-class innings, he scored an impressive 62 runs. This paved the way for his County Championship debut for Kent, which occurred at the end of the same month. After playing in four Championship matches that season, he signed a contract extension with Kent in October 2017.

Crawley‘s journey continued as he joined the Kent squad for the 2017–18 Regional Super50 competition in the West Indies in early 2018. There, he scored his first List A cricket half-century in Kent’s opening match against Guyana, showcasing his skills as an opening batsman. However, his unbeaten 99 against the Leeward Islands in the county’s third match garnered attention, as the opposing team resorted to wide deliveries in an attempt to deny him a century.

In the 2018 season, Zak Crawley became a regular in the Kent side, playing in all of the team’s first-class matches and occasional limited-overs games. He finished the County Championship season as Kent’s third-highest run-scorer, accumulating 755 runs at an average of 31.46 runs per inning. After twice being dismissed in the 90s, he finally scored his maiden first-class century in the final home match of the season, making 168 against Glamorgan at Canterbury in September. A contract extension at the end of the season followed this achievement.

During the 2018/19 winter, he played New South Wales Grade cricket for Sydney Cricket Club and set a new record for the fastest century in the competition, scoring 100 runs from 42 balls in a T20 Cup match against Sutherland District Cricket Club.

London Spirit drafted Zak Crawley for the inaugural season of The Hundred, where he featured in a match against Birmingham Phoenix, scoring 64 runs as an opening batsman. London Spirit retained him for the 2022 season. Subsequently, he played for Hobart Hurricanes in the 2022–23 Big Bash League, scoring a half-century on debut in his first appearance in an overseas franchise league.

Despite some ups and downs in county cricket, Zak Crawley‘s potential as an international batsman was evident on the international front. He made his England Lions debut in a four-day match against an Australian XI in July 2019 after a series of good performances. This led to his inclusion in the England cricket team’s Test match squad for their 2019/20 tour of New Zealand.
