NMS Labs Denies Conducting Autopsy on Late Nigerian Singer Mohbad

The National Medical Services Laboratories (NMS) in Pennsylvania has denied conducting a toxicology test on the late Nigerian singer, Ilerioluwa Aloba, popularly known as Mohbad. This denial comes amid a swirl of conflicting reports about the investigation into Mohbad‘s death, raising serious questions about how forensic testing has been handled and communicated in this case.

In a surprising turn of events, NMS Labs has refuted claims made by the Lagos State Government regarding the toxicology test of Mohbad. Punch Newspaper initiated a fact-finding mission to uncover the truth behind the musician’s death, which led to this revelation.

Earlier, a pathologist told the Coroner’s Court on May 15, 2024, that determining Mohbad‘s cause of death through an autopsy was impossible due to the advanced state of decomposition of his body. When the Coroner’s Court convened in Ikorodu in November 2023, state attorney Omotoso Akinde stated that no toxicology test, typically part of an autopsy, had been performed.

Omotoso mentioned during a live program that the state DNA and Forensic Centre handles such cases, often collaborating with affiliate centres in the US, including NMS Labs in Pennsylvania. However, an email dated May 17, 2024, from Esther Dede, a Client Services Associate in the Forensics Division of NMS Labs, stated, “Unfortunately, we do not have a case for that patient.”

This denial adds another layer of complexity to the investigation into Mohbad‘s death, raising further questions about the handling and communication of forensic testing in the case.

News of the US lab’s denial has sparked a wave of reactions on social media. Fans and concerned citizens are demanding answers and justice for Mohbad. The hashtag #JusticeForMohbad has been trending on X as users express frustration and disappointment with the ongoing investigation. The public’s call for transparency and accountability in the investigation continues to grow louder, reflecting widespread concern over the circumstances of Mohbad’s untimely death.
