Former Southern Jaguars wide receiver Quaydarius Davis is at the center of controversy after disturbing surveillance footage surfaced allegedly showing him assaulting his ex-girlfriend, Ja’Yunna Monae, in Tulsa, Oklahoma.

The incident, captured by neighbors’ security cameras, occurred in the early hours of April 12, 2025, and has sparked widespread outrage, prompted a police investigation, and reignited discussions about domestic violence in sports.

According to reports and Monae’s own statements, the altercation took place around 1:58 AM, shortly after she ended their relationship due to what she described as multiple “red flags.” In the video, a man identified as Davis—dressed in plaid pants and a white shirt—is seen attacking Monae on a staircase.

The footage allegedly shows Davis choking her from behind until she loses consciousness, after which he drags her to the side and walks away. Monae later claimed the severity of the assault caused her to lose control of her bladder.

Following the incident, Monae took to social media to confirm the events and stated she had contacted the police, as had her neighbors. “Everything is captured… I called the police, my neighbors called the police. I will be pressing charges, and NO I AM NOT GOING BACK,” she wrote. Monae also alleged that Davis broke down her apartment door and punched her multiple times. She sought medical treatment, where doctors confirmed no internal damage to her neck vessels but noted significant bruising and soreness.

Davis was arrested later that day and booked into Tulsa County Jail on charges of first-degree burglary, domestic abuse, and battery by strangulation. His bail was set at $20,000. As of April 13, no court date has been announced, but Monae has reiterated her commitment to pursuing legal action.

Quaydarius “Quay” Davis, 22, is a former four-star wide receiver from Dallas, Texas. Once ranked the No. 23 wide receiver in the 2021 class by 247Sports, he received offers from major college programs, including Texas, USC, and Kansas. However, his college career has been turbulent, marked by multiple transfers and disciplinary issues.

Davis initially committed to the University of Kansas but was dropped after previous allegations of violence surfaced in 2021. He later played at Jackson State University under Coach Deion Sanders, then transferred to Texas Southern University and, finally, Southern University.

His stint at Southern ended in October 2024 following a team dismissal for undisclosed reasons. Just days before the incident, on April 7, 2025, Davis announced plans to re-enter the transfer portal, eyeing a potential final season elsewhere.

This is not Davis’ first brush with the law. In March 2021, he was charged with misdemeanor assault in Dallas County, Texas, for allegedly hitting a former girlfriend. The case’s outcome remains unclear.

Little is known publicly about Ja’Yunna Monae beyond her social media presence (@JaYunnaMonae). In recent posts, she’s focused on healing and advocating for herself, receiving widespread support online. Her decision to speak out and her emphasis on recognizing “red flags” has resonated with many, drawing attention to the broader issue of domestic violence in athletics.

The video, first shared by Rain Drops Media on X (formerly Twitter), went viral, amassing thousands of views and prompting intense public reaction. While some comments questioned systemic accountability in college athletics, others offered support and concern for Monae’s well-being.

Southern University has confirmed Davis’ disassociation from its athletics program as of October 2024 but has not commented further. The Tulsa Police Department and county authorities have acknowledged the arrest, but additional details have not been made public.
