The Nigerian naira traded in a narrow band on the informal Aboki market on Monday, 28 September 2026, as street dealers in Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt quoted the United States dollar at about ₦1,375 when buying cash from customers and ₦1,382 to ₦1,385 when selling.

That left a traveller or trader who handed over $100 receiving roughly ₦137,500, while anyone needing the same amount of hard currency paid close to ₦138,200–₦138,500. The official Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market rate published by the Central Bank of Nigeria closed near ₦1,329 to ₦1,331 per dollar, so the street premium stayed in the region of ₦50 to ₦55, or about 4 percent.

Demand from importers, students and travellers remained steady rather than frantic, supported by external reserves reported above $54 billion and continued oil receipts that have helped keep official liquidity from drying up. Quotes still varied slightly by city, time of day and the size of the transaction, and dealers cautioned that the informal rate can shift before the close of business.

The gap between the official window and the Aboki market has been far narrower than the wide spreads seen in earlier years, yet cash deals outside the banking system remain the practical reference for many people who cannot obtain dollars at the CBN rate.

Anyone planning an exchange was advised to confirm the live figure with a trusted operator, because parallel-market prices are not uniform and can move on local supply and remittance inflows.
