The parallel market, popularly known as the Aboki or black market rate, saw the US dollar trading at ₦1,410 for selling and ₦1,402 for buying against the Nigerian naira on Wednesday, 29th July 2026, according to the latest AbokiFX updates from major trading centres including Lagos, Abuja, Kano and Port Harcourt.

This means one hundred dollars exchanges for approximately ₦141,000 when selling to dealers and around ₦140,200 when buying from them, with a modest spread of ₦8 between the two quotes.

The figure marks a firming of the greenback in the informal segment compared with recent sessions, reflecting ongoing demand from importers, travelers and businesses that prefer the speed and accessibility of street-level transactions over formal banking channels.

Meanwhile, the official Central Bank of Nigeria rate through the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market stood near ₦1,362.21 per dollar, leaving a relatively narrow premium of roughly ₦48 or about 3.4 percent between the two markets.

Market observers note that the gap remains contained by improved foreign-exchange liquidity, steady oil-related inflows and policy measures aimed at narrowing the dual-rate system, yet street dealers continue to command a small premium because of the convenience they offer for smaller volumes and immediate settlement.

Activity across key cities remained orderly, with quotes varying only slightly by location and transaction size, and participants reported an adequate, though not abundant, dollar supply. The current levels sit within the broader trading range observed over the past month, where the parallel sell rate has fluctuated between roughly ₦1,355 and ₦1,505, underscoring a period of relative calm after earlier volatility.

Traders and analysts will continue watching liquidity conditions, remittance flows and global factors that could influence the naira’s performance in both the official window and the Aboki market in the days ahead.
