Activity remained brisk in the informal segment as bureau de change operators and street-level traders handled transactions outside formal banking channels. The narrow spread between buying and selling prices pointed to relatively balanced conditions, with dollar supply supported in part by diaspora remittances and oil-related inflows even as retail demand stayed firm.
By comparison, the official rate at the Nigerian Foreign Exchange Market hovered near ₦1,364 to ₦1,368 per dollar according to the latest Central Bank of Nigeria data, leaving a premium of roughly ₦50 to ₦60 between the two markets. Market participants noted that the parallel rate has shown only modest movement in recent sessions, reflecting ongoing efforts to improve liquidity in the formal window alongside broader economic pressures including inflation and import needs.
Traders across the country continued to monitor external reserves, crude oil receipts and policy signals for any shifts that could influence supply and demand dynamics in the days ahead.
