Davido: Financial Controversies in the World of Nigerian Celebrities

Posted By Kaptain Kush

I understand the admiration for Davido‘s music, and I share that sentiment. Personally, his most recent album stands out as a musical masterpiece from Nigeria this year.

However, his claim to be the richest artist in Nigeria or Africa raises questions after witnessing his seemingly earnest plea for money from a purported football talent manager. Seeing someone of Davido‘s stature humbly requesting as little as 100k Naira to provide for his security personnel and personal staff is perplexing. The “K” in that 100k is definitely Naira, not dollars!

I won’t delve into the alleged contract dishonor involving nearly 250 million Naira with the football manager, but it’s shocking to witness Davido hastily seeking funds to be deposited into his account, almost as if he were a Big Brother Naija influencer.

Davido, the renowned artist?

There was a time when B-Red‘s ex-wife, a relative of Davido, called him out for financial difficulties and for failing to fulfill his financial responsibilities during their marriage. She even shared screenshots of her sending as little as 10,000 Naira for food because he was broke. This was someone whose father currently serves as the governor of Osun State!

I was initially skeptical of such stories, but the recent Davido episode has compelled me to consider that many of these celebrities are leading dual lives on social media or genuinely struggle to manage their finances.

Recall that Linda Ikeji once reported that Wizkid was in arrears of rent for his house in Lekki, which led to Wizkid threatening her at the time.

Even more recently, Burna Boy faced criticism for not settling the balance on his purchased house.

What is the issue? These artists are raking in substantial earnings. Just try getting a performance fee quote from someone like Davido‘s manager, and you’ll understand what I mean; they’re pulling in eight figures for a single show!

However, Davido‘s apparent desperation in seeking 100k Naira as early as 2022 suggests that he might be an extravagant spender who struggles to manage his finances.
