Ghanaian Afua Asantewaa Sets Sights on Singathon World Record

Posted By Kaptain Kush

Ghanaian media personality Afua Asantewaa Aduonum has embarked on a mission to break the Guinness World Record (GWR) for the longest solo singleton, and she has already surpassed the first day of her ambitious endeavor. Guinness World Records has granted her permission for this challenging singing marathon, which aims to last between 117 to 120 hours.

Afua Asantewaa O. Aduonum, a prominent broadcast journalist and advocate for women’s rights from Ghana, is also recognized as a talented singer, songwriter, and social media personality, born on May 11, 1993.

The singathon, scheduled for December 24-27, 2023, showcased Afua Asantewaa singing exclusively Ghanaian songs from the Highlife, Hiplife, and Gospel genres. Each song performed is restricted to a maximum of two minutes, with repeating allowed only after a four-hour break, adhering to GWR rules.

A fervent advocate for women’s empowerment, Afua Asantewaa is determined to break the current record set 2012 by Indian Sunil Waghmare, which stands at 105 hours. Despite skepticism from some quarters regarding her ability to surpass the existing record, she has garnered significant support from Ghanaians on social media.

This record-breaking attempt follows GWR’s recent recognition of Nigerian chef Hilda Baci for the longest marathon cooking session. However, Mrs. Aduonum faces stiff competition, as Irish chef Alan Fisher recently surpassed the cooking record with an astounding 119 hours and 57 minutes.

Afua Asantewaa must adhere to GWR’s guidelines during her singing marathon. Singing must be continuous, with only brief pauses of no more than 30 seconds allowed between songs. Each piece of music performed must last at least two minutes. Accompaniment is optional, but if she chooses musicians, they can only play for a maximum of four hours before taking a break of at least four hours.

Preparation is underway for this extraordinary feat, where Afua Asantewaa aims to showcase the rich musical heritage of Ghana and her determination to break boundaries in the world of singing marathons. She aims to captivate audiences and leave an indelible mark on the global stage.
