The official fixture list was unveiled on 18 June 2025 at 09:00 BST, setting the stage for an action-packed campaign. This season features 33 weekend match rounds alongside five midweek fixtures.
Liverpool entered as the defending champions, having secured their second Premier League title — and their 20th English top-flight crown overall — in the previous campaign.
The season welcomes back Leeds United, Burnley, and Sunderland, all promoted from the Championship. Sunderland’s return also revives the historic Tyne–Wear derby for the first time since the 2015–16 season, after clinching promotion via the Championship play-offs.
This campaign also ushers in significant changes: it is the first full season using semi-automated offside technology, introduced on 12 April 2025, and Puma replaces Nike as the league’s official match ball supplier.
In total, 20 teams compete: 17 that retained their status from last season, plus the three promoted clubs. Leeds United, Burnley, and Sunderland return to the Premier League after absences of two, one, and eight years, respectively.
They take the place of Leicester City, Ipswich Town, and Southampton, who were all relegated after just one season in the top flight. This marked the second consecutive year — and only the third time in English football history — where every promoted club suffered relegation in the same campaign.
