Meet Carter Reum’s Siblings: Courtney Reum and Halle Reum Hammond

Carter Reum, an American entrepreneur, author, and venture capitalist, is widely recognized for his business ventures and his marriage to media personality Paris Hilton.

Born Carter Milliken Reum on February 5, 1981, in Wayne, Illinois—a rural suburb of Chicago—he comes from a family rooted in both business and strong values.

Of Caucasian descent and raised in a Christian household, Carter is the son of W. Robert Reum, a prominent businessman and former CEO of Amsted Industries, and Sherry Reum, a devoted homemaker.

Growing up, Carter was influenced by his father’s sharp business acumen and his mother’s nurturing guidance, which fostered his ambition and drive for success. He grew up alongside his older brother, Courtney Reum, born July 8, 1978, and his younger sister, Halle Reum Hammond, born in 1984.

Courtney James Reum

Courtney James Reum, born on July 8, 1978, in Wayne, Illinois, is the eldest of the siblings. A dynamic entrepreneur and product developer, he has made notable strides in the business world, often working alongside Carter.

Like his brother, Courtney was deeply influenced by their father’s success in industry and their mother’s focus on family values. His academic career was equally distinguished. He studied economics and philosophy at Columbia University, graduating with honors, while also playing for the Varsity Men’s Soccer Team.

He later earned an MBA from Harvard Business School, further sharpening his entrepreneurial expertise. His early career began as an investment banker at Goldman Sachs, where he worked with major clients such as Under Armour, Vitaminwater, and Procter & Gamble. A turning point came when he was involved in the merger of Allied Domecq and Pernod Ricard, which inspired him to move into the spirits industry.

In 2007, Courtney and Carter co-founded VEEV Spirits, a trailblazing alcohol brand best known for launching the world’s first açaí-infused vodka. The company achieved national success, celebrated for its sustainability practices, including operating a wind-powered distillery and donating 1% of its sales to environmental causes.

By 2011, VEEV was named one of Inc. Magazine’s 500 fastest-growing private companies and was eventually acquired by Luxco in 2016. Building on that momentum, the Reum brothers co-founded M13, a Los Angeles-based venture capital firm, in 2016.

Since then, M13 has invested in more than 125 companies, including notable names such as Lyft, Pinterest, SpaceX, and Headspace, solidifying the brothers’ reputations as visionary investors.

Beyond their business ventures, Courtney and Carter co-authored the bestselling book Shortcut Your Startup: Ten Ways to Speed Up Entrepreneurial Success in 2018, sharing valuable insights for aspiring entrepreneurs.

Courtney’s impact has also been recognized with features on Forbes’ “30 Under 30” list and Goldman Sachs’ “100 Most Intriguing Entrepreneurs.” His media appearances include roles on the business reality show Hatched and regular contributions as a columnist for Inc. Magazine.

Courtney’s story is not limited to entrepreneurship alone. A lifelong soccer enthusiast, he made headlines in January 2024 when he signed with Liga Portugal SABSEG club Länk Vilaverdense, debuting as a late substitute at age 45 despite never having played professionally before.

His dedication to public service is also evident, as he serves as a commissioner for the Los Angeles Convention Center & Tourism Authority, and as a board member of the Los Angeles Opera.

Halle Reum Hammond

Halle Reum Hammond, the youngest of the Reum siblings, was born in 1984 and has taken a distinct yet equally impactful path.

Like her brothers, Halle graduated from Columbia University (class of 2006), making the Reum family a trio of Ivy League alumni.

She has made her mark as a celebrity stylist in the television and motion picture industry, showcasing her creative flair and eye for aesthetics. Halle’s personal life has also drawn attention due to her marriage to Oliver Hammond, a scion of the Annenberg family, known for their philanthropy and media empire.

The couple’s 2015 wedding, attended by their father Robert shortly before his passing in 2017, was described as a spectacular event, highlighting Halle’s ability to bring people together in style. Her connection to the Annenberg family places her in influential circles, and her role as a stylist aligns with her knack for curating memorable experiences.

Halle’s significance in the Reum family extends beyond her professional pursuits. She played a pivotal role in Carter’s relationship with Paris Hilton, inviting both to her Thanksgiving celebration in 2019, where their romance sparked after 15 years of acquaintance.
