Early Life

Alvaro Morte was born on February 23, 1975, in Algeciras, Cádiz, Spain, but his family soon relocated to Bujalance, Córdoba. He initially studied communications engineering before switching to dramatic art and graduating from the Escuela Superior de Arte Dramático de Córdoba in 1999.

He also pursued post-graduate studies at the University of Tampere before returning to Madrid.

Career

Morte began his acting career with a minor role in the Spanish television series Hospital Central. He then secured his first leading role in the TV series Planta 25 from 2007 to 2008, portraying Ray as a driver. In 2014, he joined the cast of the long-running telenovela El Secreto de Puente Viejo as Lucas Moliner, a small-town physician.

Morte’s breakthrough came when he took on the role of “El Profesor” (Sergio Marquina) in the television series Money Heist. His portrayal of the meticulous criminal mastermind received high praise. The series achieved enormous success and became the most-watched non-English series.

Following Money Heist, Morte landed his first leading role in a feature film, Mirage (2018), released on Netflix. In 2019, he began filming the series El embarcadero, where he played Óscar, a man leading a double life with two separate women. He also announced his participation in the Amazon television series The Wheel of Time, an adaptation of the epic fantasy novels. In the series, he reportedly portrays the character of Logain, with filming beginning in December 2019.
