Born in Vietnam on June 2, 1977, Anh Do is a talented Australian writer, actor, comedian, and painter. He has been on Australian television shows like Thank God You’re Here, and Good News Week and came in second place on Dancing with the Stars in 2007. 

He pursued a combined Business Law and Technology degree at the University of Technology Sydney. He has acted in several of his brother, Khoa Do‘s movies, including the co-written and produced movie Footy Legends. 

2012 saw the debut of his television program Anh Do Vietnam. He won the 2017 People’s Choice Award and has made the Archibald Prize final four times. From 2016 to 2018, he hosts Anh’s Brush with Fame on ABC.

Early Life & Education

Anh Do is an Australian author born in Vietnam on June 2, 1977. He and his family were refugees who immigrated to Australia in 1980. He is the son of Tam Do and Hien Do. He has two siblings: Khoa Do and Tram Do.

He simultaneously enrolled in courses at TAFE and a university to study fine arts and law, but he left both to pursue a career in comedy. He has reduced his comedy since last year to return to painting full-time.

Anh Do and his family had a challenging time in Australia. He had a different diet than the other kids, learned English slowly, and dressed differently. He quickly picked up English, and his academic performance improved. He has worked hard for many years and is finally experiencing success.

Career

Anh Do attended St. Aloysius’ College in Milsons Point for his secondary education. He started a little business raising tropical fish at the age of 14. During his first year of law school at the University of Technology Sydney, he operated a stand selling American Indian artifacts, which he later expanded to four franchised locations. 

Six months before earning his combined Business Law degree, law companies offered him jobs requiring 60 hours weekly. He decided to begin stand-up comedy instead. He has scaled back his stand-up since 2013 to focus solely on his paintings. In 2014, 2017 and 2019, he was a finalist for the Archibald Prize.

From 2016 to 2021, Anh Do host ABC-Brush TV’s Anh’s with Fame. Anh Do, the show’s host, conducts interviews with renowned Australians while also portraying them. He has come under fire for pre-painting the portraits using photographs and his art tutor’s help.
