David’s father, Arthur Robert White, made a living as a porter at the renowned Billingsgate Fish Market, while his hardworking mother, Olwen Jones, hailed from Merthyr Tydfil in Wales and worked as a charwoman.

1951, Jason attended Northfield Secondary Modern School after failing the 11-plus exam. Despite his initial disappointment, he remained determined to pursue his dream of becoming an actor. His older brother’s success greatly influenced this aspiration in the field.

Jason began his television career in 1964 as Bert Bradshaw in Crossroads. Three years later, he co-starred in the children’s comedy series Do Not Adjust Your Set as several characters, including the mock super-hero Captain Fantastic, alongside Eric IdleTerry JonesDenise Coffey, and Michael Palin

Humphrey Barclay was impressed with Jason’s sense of timing and recruited him for Do Not Adjust Your Set. This decision was made to balance out the more intellectual style of Idle, Jones, and Palin. After the show ended in 1969, Jason’s character made a subsequent appearance in the children’s program Magpie on Thames Television.

During the 1970s, Jason appeared in television shows such as The Goodies, The Two Ronnies, and Porridge. Then, in 1981, he landed the role of Derek “Del Boy” Trotter in Only Fools and Horses, ultimately gaining widespread recognition.
