Early life and education
Guy Torry was born in Fort Ord, California, to Sgt. First Class Robert Guy Torry Sr. and Rebecca Torry. His father served in the U.S. Army, while his mother was involved in education and community activism. Guy is the fifth of six children in the Torry family.
When he was four years old, his family moved to Jamaica, Queens, New York, where they lived for about three years before relocating to St. Louis, Missouri.
He grew up largely in St. Louis and considers the city his hometown. His family also included his older brother Joe Torry, who became a successful comedian and actor, and his brother Ramon Torry, who served in the U.S. Army.
