Career
Ian Whyte began his professional life as a basketball player, discovering the sport in his teens and progressing rapidly due to his exceptional height and athleticism.
He played for junior national teams and spent time in the United States on scholarships before returning to Britain in 1994 to join the London Towers and later the London Leopards.
Over the following years he competed for clubs across Europe, including a successful spell with FC Porto in Portugal where he helped secure a domestic treble in 1996–97, as well as teams in France, Belgium and Greece.
He earned 80 caps for the England national team and finished his playing career with a six-year stint at the Newcastle Eagles, retiring in 2003 after nearly a decade of professional basketball.
Following his retirement, Whyte transitioned into acting and stunt work after a casting director contacted him through his basketball club for the role of a Predator in Alien vs. Predator (2004). He performed multiple Predator characters in that film and reprised the role as Wolf in Aliens vs. Predator: Requiem (2007).
His physical presence quickly opened doors to further creature and giant roles, including body-doubling for Frances de la Tour as Madame Maxime in Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005), appearing as the Devil’s Reaper in Solomon Kane (2009), Oozaru in Dragonball Evolution (2009), and Sheikh Suleiman in Clash of the Titans (2010).

His specialised skill set as a tall, athletic performer capable of demanding physical work under heavy costumes and prosthetics has established him as a reliable and respected figure within creature performance and stunt communities, contributing to some of the most visually ambitious productions of the past two decades.
