Vikram Prabhu was born on 15 January 1986 in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India, to actor Prabhu, Punitha Prabhu. He has one sister, Aishwarya Prabhu.
He attended Vidya Mandir Senior Secondary School, Don Bosco Matriculation Higher Secondary School in Chennai before pursuing higher studies at San Diego State University in the United States, where he completed an MBA.

Career
Vikram Prabhu began his career after completing his education abroad, he returned to Chennai, assisted with production work on family projects under Sivaji Productions, including Chandramukhi (2005).
He later assisted directors on films such as Sarvam (2009), Aasal (2010). He made his acting debut in 2012 with Prabhu Solomon‘s Kumki, portraying a mahout opposite Lakshmi Menon.
The film was both a critical, commercial success, earning him several Best Debut Actor awards. He followed it with the thriller Ivan Veramathiri (2013), a series of lead roles in 2014, including Arima Nambi, Sigaram Thodu, Vellaikaara Durai.
In subsequent years he appeared in films such as Idhu Enna Maayam (2015), Wagah, Veera Sivaji (both 2016), Sathriyan, Neruppu Da (both 2017, the latter also produced by him under First Artist), 60 Vayadu Maaniram (2018).
He later featured in Vaanam Kottattum (2020), the police drama Taanakkaran (2022), played Parthibendra Pallava in Mani Ratnam‘s epic Ponniyin Selvan: I (2022), Ponniyin Selvan: II (2023).
