Divya Pillai (born November 23rd, 1988) is a talented Indian actress and TV personality living in the United Arab Emirates. 

She became one of the most talked-about actresses in Malayalam after she made her debut in Ayal Njanalla (2015) opposite Dileep, which won her many accolades, including the Asianet Film Award for Best Female Debutant. 

This was followed by Oozham (2016), directed by Jeethu Joseph, and Sakhavu (2017), which won her the Kerala State Film Award Special Mention. Now, Divya Pillai has teamed up with acclaimed director Abrid Shine in this year’s blockbuster Premam.

Early Life & Education

Divya Pillai was born to a Malayali family. She was born to Narayana Pillai (father) and Chandrika Pillai (mother) on November 29th, 1988.

Born and brought up in Dubai, UAE, she moved to Kerala at an early age. Her father is from Kasargod, while her mother is from Palakkad. She has two siblings – a brother who lives in Abu Dhabi and another sister who lives in Bahrain. 

Divya Pillai completed her schooling at Dubai Modern High School, which is affiliated with Cambridge International Examinations (CIE). Later, she pursued a Bachelor of Business Administration (BBA) from Middlesex University, Dubai Campus. She holds a Post Graduate Diploma in Film Studies from New York Film Academy, Los Angeles.

Personal Life

Divya Pillai is married, and her husband’s name is Govind Padmasoorya, a very well-known Malayalam actor from Kerala. 

The couple has two children, a son and a daughter. The family lives in Thiruvananthapuram.

Career

Divya Pillai made her film debut in 2015 with the romantic-comedy Ayal Njanalla opposite Fahadh Faasil in the directorial debut of actor Vineeth Kumar. 

Her second project was under the direction of Jeethu Joseph in Oozham (2016), a revenge drama starring Prithviraj Sukumaran. The film was a box office success. In 2019 she had a guest role as Jancy in the television serial Uppum Mulakum.

After Oozham, Divya Pillai landed a part in Neelakasham Pachakadal Chuvanna Bhoomi (2018), a crime thriller directed by Dileesh Nair. It was followed by Sugeeth‘s debut directorial venture Ithu Thanda Policeum (2018), and the 2018 horror anthology Kammara Sambhavam, where she portrayed a ghost in a three-minute segment directed by Adoor Gopalakrishnan. She has also signed her next project, titled Vismaya with Saji Surendran and Anjali Menon, which is yet to be released.

Divya Pillai has also acted in a Tamil film titled Pariyerum Perumal opposite Vidharth and produced by Prithviraj Sukumaran under his banner August Cinema. The film will be released on 26 September 2019. She is currently shooting for her next Tamil project opposite Atharvaa Manikandan, directed by Muthukumar, who made Aadukalam and Kadhalil Sodhappuvadhu Yeppadi starring Vijay Sethupathi and Jyothika, respectively.
