Marina Teresa Squerciati (born 30 April 1984), also addressed as Marina Squerciati, is a creative American actress and TV personality. In movies like It’s Complicated (2009), Frances Ha (2012), and Sparks (2013), she has acted. 

Additionally, she played Alessandra Steele for eight episodes of Gossip Girl on television. 

Marina Squerciati has played Detective Kim Burgess in the NBC drama series Chicago P.D. since January 2014, and she has also been in Chicago Fire (2012), Chicago Med (2015), and Chicago Justice (2017).

Italian descent, Marina Squerciati was born on April 30, 1984, in New York City, United States. 

She is the offspring of the author and academic Marie Squerciati, while her father is John R. Jakobson. She earned a B.A. in theater from Northwestern University in 2003.


Marina Squerciati received the Agnes Moorehead award for her contributions to the theater for her portrayal of Judy Holliday in the off-Broadway production of Just in Time: The Judy Holliday Story at the Lucille Lortel Theatre. She made her Broadway debut in a production of Casey Nicholaw‘s version of Ernst Lubitsch‘s To Be or Not to Be. She appeared in several Off-Broadway plays, including Manipulation and Beauty of the Father. she was a member of The Essentials. She developed the character of Kerri Taylor in the Cappella musical comedy Perfect Harmony.

Marina Squerciati had an appearance in the Emile Ardolino-directed The Nutcracker in 1993. She debuted in a feature film in 2009’s It’s Complicated. She made appearances in Alter Egos and Frances Ha in 2012. She also starred in the independent film Sparks, which was adapted from the William Katt comic SPARKS

In 2009, she made her television debut on Law & Order: Criminal Intent. She had guest parts on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, Damages, The Good Wife, Blue Bloods, and Damages in 2010 and 2011, but her eight-episode arc on Gossip Girl‘s fifth season in the fall of 2011 brought her notoriety. 

Marina Squerciati appeared as a Soviet agent in a 2013 cameo appearance on the FX series The Americans. She was announced as playing Officer Kim Burgess in the Chicago Fire spin-off Chicago P.D. in August 2013. The program began airing on January 8, 2014. On September 25, 2019, the seventh season debuted. On February 27, 2020, NBC announced that the show had been renewed for an additional eight, nine, and ten seasons.

Marina Squerciati is wed to lawyer Eli Kay-Oliphant. She tweeted about her pregnancy on February 15, 2017, and gave birth to a daughter in May.

According to court documents from September 2019, she was the child of the late financier John R. Jakobson, who was also the father to the actress Maggie Wheeler. Despite being promised that the financier would include her in his will, no provision was made for her, according to the documents. 

According to supporting documentation, John R. Jakobson paid for Marina Squerciati‘s nanny, child support, and Northwestern and Dalton University tuition.
