Early Life

Ufuoma Stacey Ejenobor-McDermott (born 23 April 1981) was born in Benin City, the capital of Edo State, Nigeria, to parents of Urhobo ancestry who hails from Delta State in Nigeria.

However, she moved a lot – from Benin City to Jos, where she spent the better part of her formative years, and later to Lagos. She is 42 years Old.

Ufuoma McDermott has lived for the most part of her life and still currently resides. At the age of seven, her father formed a pet name for her: ISIO (which means “star” in Urhobo).

She was so named after the star actress of the TELEFEST program put together by NTA Benin, The Pot of Life.

Education

Ufuoma McDermott attended several schools for her primary education due to cases which relocation.

First was with Alama Private School, Jos, Plateau state, Tunwase Nursery, and primary school Ikeja, Lagos, and finally Molly International Nursery and Primary, Ajao Estate for her nursery and primary education.

She then attended Federal Government College, Odogbolu, Ogun State, for her secondary education.
 
Ufuoma McDermott went ahead to secure a degree in the French language from the University of Lagos, where she partook in a Federal Government scholarship holiday program. She also has certificates and diplomas from Alliance Française and NIIT.

In addition, she holds a master’s degree in Public and International Affairs, also from the University of Lagos. In 2011, she attended New York Film Academy in Los Angeles for an acting course and later a filmmaking course from Dov Simen’s Hollywood Film Institute.

In 2013, she obtained a certificate in Human resource management from the London Business School. In Summer 2015, she was part of the Relativity Education program from Nigeria, owned by Relativity Media in Beverly Hills. 

Career

Ufuoma McDermott started a career in entertainment with modeling in 2000 as a photographic model and later moved on to the runway and beauty pageants. With modeling came the energy for pageant shows as she participated in many mini pageant shows.

In 2002, she made an appearance, won the Miss Ebony beauty pageant, and participated in her first national pageant show.

Ufuoma McDermott continued to come out in the top spot in many beauty shows, although she won a few. At this point, she considered acting, making her debut in the 2004 movie titled the President Must Not Die, directed by Zeb Ejiro. Then to her first lead role feature in Life and Death (2005).

In 2008, she played “Lillian Wright” in the TV series, My Mum, a role that got her a nomination for the best actress award at the 2010 Festival de Télévision de Monte-Carlo and one at The Terracotta Nigerian TV and Film Awards.

In addition, she was nominated as the Actor of the year 2011 at the Future Awards. Since then, she has been featured in a good number of movies, including ‘Okafor’s Law,’ ‘Wives of Strike,’ ‘What Just Happened‘ and ‘Merry Men II.’

Ufuoma McDermott got married on 23 April 2010 to Steven McDermott. The marriage is blessed with two children; a son named, Isio Jared born on October 10th, 2012, and a daughter, Kesiena Alize, born August 8th, 2015.

She officially changed her name to Ufuoma McDermott on 23 May 2014 at a Lagos high court.
