He continued working alongside Bhardwaj and contributed writing to The Blue Umbrella, Omkara, Kaminey, and Matru Ki Bijlee Ka Mandola. His directorial debut arrived in 2010 when he made Ishqiya, followed by Dedh Ishqiya in 2014.
He directed Udta Punjab in 2016, a critically acclaimed drama addressing the drug crisis in Punjab.
That same year, he made his producing debut on A Death in the Gunj. His next major directorial work, Sonchiriya, arrived in 2019 and earned the Filmfare Critics’ Award for Best Film.
Chaubey later directed the Ray segment “Hungama Hai Kyon Barpa” and the Netflix series Killer Soup.
