The film earned widespread critical praise, with Roger Ebert naming it the best film of 2004, and Jenkins won the Independent Spirit Award for Best First Feature along with the Franklin J. Schaffner Award from the AFI.
Following Monster, Jenkins directed episodes of television series such as Arrested Development and Entourage, as well as the pilot and finale of AMC’s The Killing, for which she received a Primetime Emmy nomination and won a Directors Guild of America Award.
