Alexandra Ashley Hughes also known as Allie X, is a Canadian singer-songwriter born on July 31, 1985. She grew up in Toronto after being born in Oakville, Ontario. She began her career in Toronto’s underground club scene, self-releasing the 10-track demo album Waiting for the Prize in 2006.

She relocated to Los Angeles in 2013 to become a full-time songwriter. She joined with Prescription Songs and began creating songs for other artists such as Carly Rae Jepsen, Troye Sivan, and Grimes.
