Early life and education

DJ Oskido came into this world on November 26, 1967, in the vibrant Oukasie township situated in Brits, in the North West province of South Africa.

 His lineage is a blend of Zimbabwean and South African roots, with his father, Esaph Mdlongwa, a prominent politician from Zimbabwe, and his mother, Emily Sophia Molefi, a native of South Africa. Oskido grew up having three siblings: Chicco Twala, Oscar Mdlongwa, and Brian Themba.

After completing his secondary education at Gifford High School in Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, DJ Oskido did not pursue further formal education. 

Career

Oskido’s career started in the early 1990s when he took on the role of DJ at Razzmatazz nightclub, located in Hillbrow, Johannesburg. It didn’t take long for him to make a name for himself due to his exceptional talent for seamlessly fusing American house music with the distinctive rhythms and beats of South Africa. 

Recognizing his potential, Oskido, Don Laka, and Christos Katsaitis joined in 1993 to establish the prominent record label Kalawa Records. Kalawa Records, after its establishment, managed to achieve remarkable success as one of South Africa’s leading record labels.

 It played a pivotal role in the music industry by releasing albums from some of the nation’s most prominent artists, such as Mafikizolo, Boom Shaka, and Bongo Maffin. Through their contributions, Kalawa Records solidified its position and reputation as a key player in South African music.
