Kalpana Raghavendar (born 8 May 1980) is a talented singer, songwriter, actress, and reality TV personality from India. She competed on Bigg Boss Telugu Season 1 and won Idea Star Singer Malayalam. 

At age five, she began her career as a playback vocalist. As of 2013, she had recorded 1,500 recordings and given 3,000 performances in India and overseas.

Kalpana Raghavendar won the fifth season of the south Indian singing competition Star Singer, which was run by the Malayalam TV network Asianet, in 2010. She served as one of the Super Singer Junior 6 judges.

Kalpana Raghavendar was born on 8 May 1980 into a musical family from Chennai, India. Her mother, Sulochana Raghavendar, is also a singer, and her father, T. S. Raghavendra, was a well-known playback singer, actor, and composer. 

Shekinah Shawn, her younger sister, is a well-known opera singer who was born Prasanna Raghavendar. Madurai T. Srinivasan taught Kalpana Raghavendar Carnatic music. 

She is an accomplished singer, possessing a Master’s in Computer Applications and working toward a Master’s in Philosophy.

Career

At the age of 5, Kalpana Raghavendar began her musical career. Her first vocal performance was for a song written by music director Saluri Vasurao that included P. Susheela, Mano, M. M. Srilekha, and her younger sister Shekinah Shawn.

She began her career as a full-fledged playback singer as an adult in 1999 by lending her vocals to the Telugu movie Manoharam‘s song Mangalagouriki, which was composed by Mani Sharma. Along with these renowned musicians, she has collaborated with K. S. Chithra, Ilaiyaraaja, A. R. Rahman, K. V. Mahadevan, S. P. Balasubrahmanyam, and M. S. Viswanathan.

Kalpana Raghavendar has performed approximately 3000 stage shows worldwide, making her more well-known to the general public as a stage performer than a playback vocalist. In 2013, She was the featured singer at a performance in honor of Madurai T. Srinivasan, her mentor.
