In 2013, Khuli Chana underwent a harrowing incident when he was shot by the police while inside his car, a traumatic experience resulting from a case of mistaken identity that significantly impacted both his reputation and career. Despite the speculations surrounding the incident, Khuli Chana not only survived the shooting but also made a full recovery.

Subsequently, he cleared his name by settling the matter out of court, receiving a settlement of R1.8 million. Overcoming this challenging episode, Khuli Chana moved forward and found happiness with DJ and television personality Lamiez Holworthy, whom he married in 2019.
