P-Square (born November 18, 1981) is a celebrated Nigerian musical duo composed of twin brothers Peter Okoye and Paul Okoye. They are talented singers and songwriters, famously known as Rudeboy and Mr. P, and excel as record producers, dancers, and businesspeople. 

Their immense success has earned them the reputation of being one of history’s most accomplished African music groups. In 2017, P-Square disbanded after a disagreement between the two brothers. However, they have since reconciled and are now working on new music.

Early Life & Education

P-Square, a renowned twin Nigerian musical duo, was born in Jos on November 18, 1981. The brothers hail from the town of Ifite Dunu in Anambra State. 

Peter Okoye and Paul Okoye‘s mother, Josephine Okoye, and father, Pa. Moses Okoye, were both in various business enterprises. Rudeboy and Mr. P, known as P-Square, were raised alongside their siblings: Jude Okoye, Mary Okoye, Lilian Okoye, Ifeanyi Okoye, Tony Okoye, and Henry Okoye.

P-Square then attended St. Murumba Secondary Institution, a tiny Catholic institution in Jos, Plateau State, Nigeria, where they received their West African Senior School Certificate.

Career

Back in 1999, a duo with musical aspirations embarked on their journey under the moniker Smooth Criminals. However, it was in 2005 that they rebranded themselves as the renowned P-Square and introduced their debut album, Get Squared, to the world. This album achieved remarkable commercial success and played a pivotal role in establishing P-Square as one of Nigeria’s premier music acts.

Their musical prowess continued with subsequent top-rated albums such as Round About, Game Over, and Double Trouble. These albums received critical acclaim and garnered prestigious accolades, including the coveted MTV Africa Music Award for Best Group, cementing their status as musical luminaries in Africa.

In 2011, P-Square signed a record deal with Akon‘s Konvict Muzik label, leading to a surge in their global presence. They embarked on extensive tours across the United States, Europe, and Asia, further expanding their fan base.

However, in 2017, a rift between the two brothers led to the disbandment of P-Square, leaving their fans disheartened. Yet, time brought healing, and in a surprising turn of events in 2022, P-Square reunited and released a new song titled Jaiye (The Game). This unexpected reunion sparked excitement and anticipation among their loyal fan base, rekindling the magic of their musical partnership.

Peter ‘Mr. P’ Okoye tied the knot with Lola Omotayo-Okoye, a marketing representative. Together, they are proud parents to two beautiful children, their son Cameron Okoye and their daughter Aliona Okoye. Their wedding took place in 2013 and was a grand affair, graced by numerous Nigerian celebrities and esteemed guests.

A well-known musician, Paul ‘Rudeboy’ Okoye is blissfully married to Anita Isama-Okoye, a talented lawyer. Their love journey began in 2014 when they exchanged vows in a small and private wedding ceremony. Andre Okoye, the couple’s gorgeous son, offers them much joy and happiness.
