From a very young age she was exposed to musical and artistic influence, and she first appeared on stage at age seven.
She completed her secondary education in 2004 at Khachik Dashtents School #114 in Yerevan. Alongside her regular schooling, she studied piano at the Sayat-Nova Music School and later graduated from Yerevan State University with a degree in international relations.
Personal Life
In June 2009, Sirusho married Levon Kocharyan, the son of a former Armenian president. The couple have three children: their first son, Robert, was born in 2014; their second son, Michael, arrived in May 2016; and their daughter, Zabelle, was born in June 2022. She remains married and there are no widely reported public accounts of divorce or marital scandals.
Career
Sirusho’s musical journey started in early childhood, singing folk songs and performing in front of audiences, including in the Armenian diaspora community in Canada at about age seven.
By age nine she won her first major recognition for her rendition of the folk song “Lusabats,” winning a Young Talents Contest. At age 13, she released her debut studio album titled Sirusho (2000), marking the official beginning of her professional music career.
In 2005 she released the album Sheram, which focused on Armenian folk “gusan” songs and included the hit single “Shorora.” That album helped her emerge as a leading voice in Armenian music. In 2007 she followed with the album Hima, which combined contemporary pop and soul with Armenian musical influences.
Her international breakthrough came in 2008 when she represented Armenia at Eurovision with “Qélé, Qélé,” a song she co-wrote.
The track earned fourth place in the final—a result that stood as one of Armenia’s best in the contest’s history. Over the years she has toured extensively across many countries, bringing Armenian pop and folk music to global audiences.
Beyond singing, Sirusho has also ventured into fashion and jewelry design. In 2012 she launched a handcrafted silver jewelry line named PreGomesh, inspired by Armenian heritage and traditional motifs.
Her more recent music blends traditional Armenian elements with modern beats, reflecting her commitment to preserving her culture while evolving as an artist.
