Basketmouth, the renowned Nigerian comedian, was born in Lagos State on September 14, 1978. He is an indigene of Abia State, Nigeria. Growing up, his mother, Felicia Okpocha, nurtured him, while his father was Mr. Okpocha.

Within his family unit, he has two siblings named Lenora Okpocha and Godwin Okpocha. After completing his primary and secondary education in Apapa, Lagos, Basketmouth furthered his studies at the prestigious University of Benin in Edo State. 

There, he pursued a sociology and anthropology degree, laying the foundation for his future success in the entertainment industry.

Career

Basketmouth‘s comedy career took off in 1995 when he caught the attention of the renowned musician 2baba, who was so impressed by his talent that he invited him to showcase his skills at his monthly show at The Den in Ikeja. 

Recognizing his potential, Tequila Events selected Basketmouth in 2000 to join Julius Agwu on their Play It Safe Tour, where they entertained students in over 30 prestigious higher institutions across Nigeria. This opportunity showcased his comedic prowess and solidified his presence in the Nigerian entertainment industry.

Basketmouth‘s career has experienced a tremendous surge. His talent and hard work have earned him several prestigious accolades, such as the National Comedy Award. 

In 2005 and 2006, he was also named the Best Stand-Up Comedian of the Year. The Comedy Store, the Just For Laughs Festival in Montreal, Canada, and the Comedy Central Special are just a few of the most prestigious venues where he has performed.

Basketmouth, 45, a famous comedian, tied the knot with his beloved partner Elsie Uzoma Okpocha in November 2010 after being in a committed relationship for a significant amount of time. The couple are blessed with two beautiful children: Jason Okpocha and Janelle Okpocha.

However, unexpectedly, in December 2022, Basketmouth publicly revealed through his official Instagram account that he and his wife had decided to end their marriage, marking the end of their twelve-year journey together.
