Early Life and Education

Pham Nhat Vuong was born on 5 August 1968 in Hanoi, Vietnam, to Pham Nhat Quang, who served in the Vietnamese Army’s air defense division, and his mother, who ran a small tea shop to support the family. He has two siblings, Pham Thi Lan Anh and Pham Nhat Vu.

Vuong grew up in modest circumstances in Hanoi and graduated from Kim Lien High School in 1985. He attended Hanoi University of Mining and Geology before receiving a scholarship to study at the Russian State Geological Prospecting University (Moscow Geological Prospecting Institute), from which he graduated in 1992.
