Ana Cabrera was born on the 13th of May 1982, in Denver, Colorado, United States. She was born to American parents named Ronald Cabrera (father) and Judith Cabrera (mother). She has five siblings: Angelina Cabrera, Matthew Cabrera, John Cabrera, and Nathan Cabrera.

Ana Cabrera grew up in Denver, where she didn’t grow up in a largely Hispanic neighborhood like Texas or California.

Little is known about her family and childhood, nor why she chose to pursue a career in journalism, but she did enroll at Washington State University after graduating from high school. Ana Cabrera pursued her bachelor’s degree there. 


After completing her studies, Ana Cabrera began working at KHQ-TV in Spokane, Washington State. The station is an NBC affiliate and the flagship of The KHQ Television Group, which is owned by the same business that owns “The Spokesman-Review.” Its broadcasts are seen in numerous parts of the United States and Canada, and it is known for having a larger audience.

Ana Cabrera returned to her hometown of Denver after a few years with KHQ-TV. She began working for KMGH-TV Channel 7 News, an ABC affiliate owned by the E. W. Scripps Company that is available on multiple cable and digital networks.

She worked as a morning news anchor and was part of the field reporting crew covering the 2012 High Park Fire, a wildfire in Larimer County, Colorado, west of Fort Collins. According to sources, the fire was started by a lightning strike and burned for nearly a month before being put out. The fire killed one person and destroyed nearly 87,000 acres, making it Colorado’s second-largest fire by area burned.

It was the third most damaging fire in Colorado history, destroying almost 260 homes. She earned an Emmy for her field reporting, and the morning crew won the Associated Press Television and Radio Association’s Annual Mark Twain Award for Best Morning Show Broadcast the following year.

CNN hired Ana Cabrera as a Denver-based correspondent shortly after receiving her prize. CNN is owned by Turner Broadcasting System and was the first television network in the United States to provide 24-hour news coverage and the first all-news network, broadcasting to over 100 million households. After some time as a correspondent, she was promoted to work with the CNN Investigative team, and she served in that position for several years.

Ana Cabrera took over as the anchor of the weekend prime time program “CNN Newsroom” from Poppy Harlow in 2017. “CNN Newsroom” airs both taped and live news reports throughout the week. They also invite experts from various professions to discuss the issues and news stories they cover in each program. 

In contrast to other primetime programs that typically report on harsh news, the show is noted for focusing on softer topics. The program debuted in 2006 by replacing “CNN Live Today” with several other shows in the same time slot throughout the week and has become a benchmark for programming on their network.
