Lidia Thorpe, a proud DjabWurrung, Gunnai, and Gunditjmara woman, was born on August 18, 1973, in Carlton, Victoria, Australia. Growing up, she was raised by her father, Roy Illingworth, alongside her mother, Marjorie Thorpe, and cousins Alister ThorpeLisa Thorpe, and Alice Pepper.

Lidia Thorpe‘s journey into politics began when she was elected to the Victorian Aboriginal Consultative Committee in 2004. For six years, she tirelessly fought for Aboriginal people’s rights.
